Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

i have 6, 5/6inch clown loaches in a 2ft cubed tank along with adult boesmani rainbows, tiger barbs,a 6inch bala shark and a large male geophagus(the boss).they are omnivorous and very active in the tank.they can grow very large and would need a bigger tank.people recommend keeping them with discus but i saw them attacking breeding discus and would not recommend it.keep water quality up and avoid whitespot as it is very hard to treat as they are scaleless.probably the most popular of the botia family.
phil.

I have 5 good sized ones with a pla ted tank with discus and beware that like nibbling on dark colored leaves and they can uproot plants so they best suit with plants clingin to rocks and wood

I echo phil, dont keep them with discus , i learnt that the hard way . besides attacking the discus they become more active at night and stress the discus out while they are resting , by their ammussing behaviour. Actually i think phil has one of the ones who took alump out of one of my discus heads, the discus was flying up and down the tank with a clown loach hanging out of him, this was before lights on.

big tank and i would have to say that from a personal experience three is to few. i got three first one was left on his own and i have to say his life was sad he lost colour and swam around a few square inches after i add four more the change is unbelievable i know have three sub groups with in the seven and pleco cleaning station:laugh:     yes the groups take it in turns and coloured up some thing special the usually inhabit a piece of bog wood.

personal i think with these five is the minimum to avoid one becoming stressed. and a large tank. and plenty of water changes to get them to reach their potential and life expectancy. remember they are believed to only reach sexual maturity at six or seven years. and can live in the region of 15 years.

water qualilty is key here and expect to here them click a lot when they are happy and boy do you feel good when they do it:laugh:   :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Sort of funny story on them...A couple of weeks ago I invested in my first Clown Loach (before I realised that I should have about 5 of them).
well I put him in the tank when I brought him home, he went into hiding in the ship
and....I never saw him again (literally).

Thought he was shy for a couple of days, then went looking for him and he wasn't there, looked everywhere.
Must have packed his bags and moved elsewhere, he still hasn't turned up in any shape or form.

Still bemuses me :) and I don't have anybody else that may have gobbled him.nice fish.

i used to keep them many moons ago (til there was a nasty issue with a 3 year old cousin and 4 bottles of aftershave :( ), your clown may have escaped, they'll get out through any gap they can see and if they want out they'll get out. Try looking down the back of the tank.
