Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

A so-called pair went for 800.00 plus recently, search this forum , type in Zebra pleco, have fun, I had nearly 20 of these when they weren't in fashion and actually gave them away, ah the stupidity of youth. lol.

You need to google more than the price for L046, a cichlid tank is not suitable for them at all, it is not suitable for South American catfish generally, but particularly unsuitable for Hypancistus.

I don't have time now to cover their requirements, but you will be able to find loads here or even on dedicated L046 sites.

I think the type of Tank isn't a problem, i guess at those prices he could buy his own stretch of the Rio Xingu !!!!

But yes, Platty has a specie only Tank and at those prices it's the only way to go, not with Guppies etc.

PS. I know, just being flippant:P

The type of tank is a problem, unless it is a softwater South American cichlid tank, even then the temperatures would be wrong.

Just being flippant Daragh, of course the Tank matters, anyone seeing a price tag as high as those expressed in this forum would be an idiot not to research, in depth, these fish, not just depend on a forum, I'd be checking every one of the fora out there and speaking to those who keep the Fish at an advanced level, not just the odd hobbyist who kept them as novelty.

Apologies for misleading ANYONE here.

Just noticed you never stressed the type of Cichlids so if they were Malawi or Tanganyikan that would be out but if it was a Tank of south American that would be different.

More than welcome.

As more people succeed in breeding them, the prices will drop.
There are plans to extend a Damming project in that area in the near future, it has already begun but the people involved realised that other Dams are needed to make the production of Electricty viable. Who knows
what affect this will have both locally and on the availability of these and other Species of Fish.
