Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Puffer was created by 2poc (2poc)
Was in a Garden centre today & saw a lovely Puffer - it was labelled as a misc Puffer but I think it was a MBU Puffer.

Was about 6 - 8 inches including the tail - priced at only 30 quid !!
I've seen similar ones priced 250.
If anybodys looking for one the place is called 'The Orchard' & is just outside Leixlip.

They actually have quite a good selection of fish.

Only negative thing I can say about the place the Dyed Green Parrot Fish for sale.....

African selection was not great, a large selection of juveniles but not many larger fish. They have some lovely Africans from time to time though.
Also noticed a tank (no fish in it) with a price on it for adult Frontosa at 17.95.

They have about 50 or so tanks - definitely worth checking out.
The garden centre off the Navan road - 'Gardenworks' also have a good selection of fish.

Personally I would stear clear of Garden centres/hardwares selling fish.
Specialist shops are the way to go. I can`t speak for the shops mentioned
as I have never been there.

As far as I know the guy that runs the fish dept in the orchard used to work up in Aquatic village so does know what he's doing.
(Actually havent seen him there in a while but I assume he's still working there - Australian or South African guy)

So its not an mbu, is 30 quid a good price for that puffer?
Lovely looking fish, would love one but I believe they're difficult..

Hi
He was called Sean and as far as i know he has left the Orchard.
Green/Topaz puffers are a brackish water species from asia, getting up to 8" usually smaller in captivity, but can live in freshwater when juv. They are best kept in hard, alkaline brackish water and fed prawns, mussels, cockles, snails etc. They are usually nippy towards their own sp. but should be fine with scats, monos etc. Often difficult to tell them apart from spotted and figure eights as they can have geographical differences!!!!
As far as i know its gone, not sure about price, would have to see it to judge......
