Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

well hello eric, you've been quiet. did you go marine?

(ps i think it is frowned upon to post non sponsor related sales, just putting you wide as the eye of mordor never sleeps and you might land in hot water)

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

I have only ever been disappointed by ebay. I'd say that at £8 for ten they would have to be tiny! Big giveaway that they aren't pictured beside anything else so you can judge the size of them!

...I wouldn't bother wasting your postman's time.

They range from 2-6 cm in size ,
would these be cheaper to buy in a shop because of the £14 postage :P

darren , I'm still in the tropical life at the moment , but I have come across an affordable juwel rio 240 with everything needed except sand , live rock and skimmer
I am seriously thinking on buying it and selling on the tropicals as I won't be allowed have 2 big tanks :(
I used to have a 90litre boyu with a couple of clown fish and a few inverts ,
can't really remember much on taking care of
so anyone any info ??

Thanks

Hi,

Cold water and these spread like wildfire if allowed, but are pretty if the live. You can get the same in any rock pool here!

Excellent information from the last answer from Newrossman, thanks for putting the facts to us.

Darren:
You're right - it isn't Forum policy to allow non-sponsor links, but this has been allowed to remain to show that not everything offered on ebay is 'quite what it appears to be'.

No probs, got a few 10 years ago and most died but 2 lived and then took over tank!

The are very pretty the colour is amazing but if the like your tank you will regreat ever getting them.

I recall a uk nano forum post who had a few in a fluval edge and the liked it without heater and standard light.

Ebay can be good but you know something is up if coral are cheap, but good luck to seller he must live near a rocky beach, I must start selling kelp and other macro's ;)

This is a coldwater species, so unless you are putting it into a coldwater marine setup why would you get these? And even if you do have a coldwater marine setup, just go rockpooling and pick some up.

If you put these in a tropical marine setup they will either die or else reproduce in plague like proportions. The guys selling them on eBay should be banned to be honest, because they are selling these to inexperienced marine keepers as suitable for their systems, and it is usually too late before the person realises they are spreading and killing their other corals.
