Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi guys,

Two of my three angle fish seem to be listing to one side. I noticed it last night before i went to bed. They were were leaning to one side, not all the way over but maybe 45 degree's. They are swimming , eating and acting normally besides this . Should i be worried or is this normal behaviour?

Cheers Stuart.

hi stuart
how long would they stay on their side for is it just a few seconds at a time or would they be staying like that for ages

Yeah im keeping an eye on them they seem to be eating well and active in the tank but every so often they lean to one side. As i said its not all the way just about 45 degree's but they'll stay like that for awhile. All water perameters are good and all the other fish are happy.I'll just have to keep a close eye on them. If it is some kind of swim bladder problem what would be the best coarse of action?

Cheers stuart.

Alright Stuart,i doubt if you have a swimbladder problem as you said 2 of them are acting this way and its not contagious........are they looking at the surface when they are doing this,as i said they are a very curious fish so something floating around, even bubbles or the way the light comes through at certain times come make something look different, and there just trying to figure out what it is so they tilt slightly and stare for a short while!!

Ok good, they could be looking at the feeding hatch waiting for food maybe? I donno, I'll keep a good eye on them over the weekend .Their fins are almost fully grown back now and they are looking well so i'd hate for something to go wrong now.

Cheers Stuart.

Swim bladder disorders in angel fish usually have a head-up or tumbling-head-over-heels position.
45 degrees sidewards seems like a behaviour trait in response to something (so long as the eyes are trying to still look horizontal....oculargyration).

Recovering from illness, new tank, new settings, or even mini battles or stand-offs will see angels take up the tilted to one side position.

But, still keep a careful eye on it.....and increase the number of partial water changes (possibly even get the temp closer to the upper 70's F).

Yeah everything seems to be fine , they are still listing every now and then but i'm not seeing any other problems with them. Ger metioned that they are curious fish , so i reckon they are keeping an eye on the cloud minnow's near the surface.

Cheers stuart.
