Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi have my fluval roma 125 empty bar 6 minnows, I plan to setup a community tank. The tank is currently at 24c and is fully mature and is lightly planted.

I plan to setup a commnity tank, What I would like to have is:
3 dwarf gourami( 1male, 2 female if possible)
6 corydora

Would this stocking be ok ? What temperature is best ? what would be a good algae eater for this setup ?

Hi Donohoe,

you should be ok with the stock list you are proposing :) would recommend researching the species of corydoras before buying as some get to be quite big, 4" or so. They are not aggressive by any means, just like to forage a lot and the bigger guys can really stir up a fins substrate material. Strebai (max of about 2.5") and Panda (max of about 2") are both great in groups. You can get either of them quite small good LFS for a reasonable price.
No harm to add an algae eater too, the likes of Siamese algae eaters will readily take flake and pellet foods too. Could be worth looking into a small group of Ottos (Otocinlus) too, they are great wee fish, get to a max of about 1.5". They do require a mature tank though as they will almost exclusively eat algae.

Cheers,

Bill.

Thanks for the reply that's good to hear, didn't say exactly what corys I was getting as was going to ask in the shop but will be getting small ones. Was looking into algae eater going to wait and see like the SAE but was unsure if it would out grow my tank.

Alright Donohoe,as Bill said, research the cory's and dont buy whatever the first shop has.....look around as there are loads of crackers out there.......the temp will be fine for all the fish you mentioned but if you can,put a few more plants in there for the gourami's,even a few floating plants....best of luck
