fluval fizzing my water

Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

"Todays challenge" is a fluval 205 ive started running as a second filter, the return water is highly oxygenated, with a flow of micro bubbels, (similar to what comes off a co2 diffusior) that quite literally makes the tank look like sparkling water!
Ive primed the bejaysus out of it and restarted several times.
Could this be caused by a pin prick sized hole or little crack in the return tube that is sucking in air?
(which i have inspected but can detect noting)
Any similar experiences?

It's not unusual for some air to come out after cleaning the filter, you can help it release faster by gently tapping the filter or even shake it up. A continuous stream of bubbles after the initial set-up shews that there might be a hole somewhere along the circuit. Check the connections again as it could be a source of leakage and even might damage the filter if air builds inside.

Apart from not primed, or having an air-leak on the input, another alternative reason is that bubbles in the water are being sucked into the filter......now, if you have the output need the intake, and you are pumping bubbles out of the output then they may be taken back into the filter....and round and round it goes.
Having an air-stone in the tank can do the same, as can having a spray bar from another filter.
Other than that, maybe it is worth servicing the filter seals by running the seals under tap water and running your fingers around the seals to see if you have fine grit.

this is the same filter that was leaking on me, i got a new gasket which made it leak worse, but i ran it out of a buchet over night on the tiles of the kitchen floor and it seemed to bed itself in and only give me a drip when i prime it, when running no leak at all. Perhaps the seal is still not 100%. Ill sleep on it (not literally, although it may be wet, a fluval filer in the bed would be uncomfortable!)

and see what tomorrow brings, Thanks for your replies.
