Angel fry

Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

You can keep water changes to a minimum as you won't be feeding much to start off with.
Once the fry are free-swimming you can start to feed the brineshrimp but to be honest you might have got the first lot of them a bit early since it will be getting on for a week from being laid that the resulting fry will be in need of any external sustenance.
You should really be adding an air source for those as well since they will quickly die without it.
When it comes time to feed the fry you should get some tank water in - say - a cup, or similar receptacle and use something like a gravy baster to collect some of the shrimps then squirt them into the tank water (so that you aren't putting too much salt water in the fry tank) then put this in with the fry, they'll enjoy chasing them and eating them. It's nice when you can see the little fry with their bellies pink with the shrimps they have eaten.
When you do need to start changing water the very last thing you would want to do would be to use water at any temperature difference than that which the fry are in. Too much variation either way could cause problems - especially with their swim bladders which will cause them to not be able to swim properly.
Keep us up to date with progress, but be warned, if this is the first spawning the eggs can often be infertile and nothing hatches, but hopefully this won't be so in your case.
Best of luck.
John

Usually wait for 5 to 7 days from the hatch before you feed them, the other thing is you might want to filter the brine shrimp before putting them in for your fish,I used a kitchen towel in a dish and squirt the shrimp into it,lift it out and let the brine drain Off as much as possible, then reverse the towel and dip it in the water. Hope this helps

i agree somewhat with the lads but could you describe this bottle, i know seahorse sell petre dishes of BBS which will as they say die off before you get a chance to use it (will also smell foul after about 1 week) yet its great for the babies, you can also buy it in a bottle just like you can fish food which has a longer shelf life and also quite a good option. i would imagine a turkey baster would give ye the wrong results due to its hard to only suck up a small amount so i would suggest either dip your finger into the bbs or use a medicine spoon... for the tiny amount you need its easier i find.
before ye know it they'll be feeding on microworms or crushed flake
