Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hey guys and gals just looking for a few different opinions whether to run a uv or not in a marine tank.
The tank has 200ltrs. of water, 23.5kg of live rock, protein skimmer (deltec 600)with rowaphos, 2 external filters, 1 jbl 1501 with floss and micromec, and will add carbon now and again, 2nd filter eheim 2036 with just floss and the tmc v2 vecton 300 uv, and 2 wavemakers
so this is what i was going to run with, but after reading some reviews on net some say stay away from uv
so im just putting it on here to see what your opinions are
Cheers
jeff

Jeff,
Interesting the setup you have for marine.
I am in the process of coverting a 5 foot 380L tank to marine but have decided not to use my external filters JBL 1501 and JBL 900 but have ordered a 4 foot sump (awaiting delivery). Using a BLAU Overflow 3000lph box.
Yesterday I purchased the Deltec APF 800.
I was planning on using one of my external filters for a quarantine marine tank setup.
Let me know how you get on and post some pictures.
Greg

Howye greg, ive a pain in me you know what hearing different opinion's how to run a marine tank so im just going to listen to the salty men out in sh, sumps are handy but realistically you dont need one, if you look at the main tank in sh its on a sump but the only things thats in it is big ass skimmer floss micromec and rowaphos, so the only thing thats different in my tank is theirs no sump but it has the same stuff running it, i dont even need the eheim ex, but its handy to run it with a uv and some floss to stop any crap getting stuck in it, got a new bulb yesterday and decided to run with the uv
yeh il stay in touch see how we both get on mines only running 5 days now only thing it hasent got in it is sand which im getting this weekend
il start a new post now from wk. 1 with a few pics. cause nobody is replying to this one, must be the uv light, they cant see it
cheers
jeff
