Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Personally i'd skip the guppies altogether and maybe add something else like some pencils or hatchets. Is it for the colours your adding them for?
Also what size tank?

You should really turn on the heating...

Seriously, though, Bolivians can be a bit territorial but it's generally only against other Cichlid-type fish.

But - having said that - when your Guppies have fry the Bolivians will mop them up post haste (and I don't mean maybe).

For a fish with a definite blue hue to it the Blue Rainbow (I think the name is something like Lacustrus) and the Neon-Blue Dwarf Rainbow (whose name I have totally forgotten at this minute in time) would be fairly good options to consider - especially the latter. (I just remembered the name - it's M. Praecox - not sure how I could have forgotten that since I have a small shoal of them to my left! - I put it down to the age and onset of senility).

Anyone else have any suggestions?

What about Kerri tetra (Inpaichthys kerri) or Cochu's Blue tetra (Boehlkea fredcochui)?

Cochu's look great against a dark substrate in a planted tank it really makes the blue pop.
They don't look much in shop tanks but in the right conditions look stunning

you could always get electric blue rams... then you can have rams and blue in your tank :)

seriously though i wouldn't know whats available but what i would recommend doing is if your around finglas any time maybe you might be able to pop into des in maxizoo to see whats available. i have seen his stock of small fish in the past and heard from him his lists available, from memory their quite impressive as well as a bit different from the norm :)

Below tank is for sale

In which case things will be grand - but I suggest you do have female guppies (any old ones will do if you aren't after breeding them) since the males show off their best sides when displaying to a female. Likewise with the Praecox, females are almost a 'must' to get the best from the males (even though they do 'square up' to one another - they do it more, and better for a female's attention...bit like Saturday night at the disco really). And yes, 2" would be around the max for them.
