Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Going to upgrade the little fellas tank from a 60 litre to a 190,
it'll be upgrade of filter and everything!
Apart from filter squeeze is there anything I can do to kick off the new filter?
Have to move the small tank so I can put the 190 on its stand (currently occupied by small tank)
So plan is, move small tank place larger tank and fill 3/4 ways and heat water over night
Then transfer old filter to run beside new filter!
And fish transfer etc

What's the deal with organic aqua?
I know its supposed to be "instant cycle" but do you have to continue with oa or can it go back to weekly water changes without the additives?

I've no experience with organic aqua but if it works in a similar fashion I'd say its a winner. Other than that I've only been recommended it by seahorse so must be decent enough

Below tank is for sale
my plywood tank build.

The filter on the 60litre is eheim 2213 so nowhere near big enough to keep the 190 healthy!
The other filter is an aqua one 1050 (650lph)
The 2 filters will run in parallel anyway, I never rely on just 1 filter on any tank over 120l

Layout changes frequently with water changes etc, need to put a power head in soon to help circulation a little..... getting a poo buildup in a few common places, power head should help solve that tho
Might look out for different plants for it to freshen it up...... a few of them a bit knackered looking!
This 190 is just going to be sword tails, Molly's guppies etc
A bit of colour to keep him interested! Might look at live plants for it too....
Never had any dealings with them b4!!!! So if I go that route, it'll be simple hardy plants tied onto wood or something
No co2 or fancy systems yet

Taking a leaf out of Danny B's book, its kinda a theme a month tank! This month its Dinosaurs!
I bought a second hand filter for the tank a while back (aquaone 1050) good enough filter for what its doing, but there wasn't a spray bar or outlet of any kind with it! Kept meaning to buy one before I setup the system, but never got round to it!
I had a spare length of 16/22 hosing and kinda thought sure I'll make up a temporary inlet and maybe just use it as a custom spray bar!
So I drilled holes along the length of it and stuck it on!
I didn't like the way it was sitting so decided to drop the end of it down u dear the water and lifted the other end out again! So now because of the drill.ed holes it picks up air as the water passes the holes! This has ended up with a nicely oxygenated inlet!
Not very eye pleasing if your fussy, but it'll do for now till i change it to a proper pipe doing the same thing!
Have to get a black background for this one and my 350..... I actually hate the background on them both ATM lol
I know strictly speaking, the 2 gold fish probably shouldn't be in there, but the majority of these fish have lived together for the past 2 1/2 years without any issues! The current plan is they will go to my dads pond along with the koi etc in the spring next yr!
