Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I put this in the beginners section as it's the 1st time ive attempted to put together my own proper fish house
Finally got the word we are moving house and got lucky that a real decent shed came as part of the deal. It's a 10ftx8ft steel shed that im planning on turning into a proper fish room. Now it's going to take a couple of months if not more to set it up but really looking forward to getting it ready. I poured the floor on Wednesday evening. Next up is to get pipes and cables run to the shed before I can start on the insulation
Any tip greatly appreciated

Eric

Hope the floor was level and made very thick, you could fit alot of tanks in that little space lol.

Best of luck with it mate, will be looking at this to see how feasible it is to do it outside in ireland in a steel shed. Are you going to insulate it ?

Good luck with this Eric.

Just make sure you insulate fully and correctly is the tip I would give you............I didn't but when I I did it in August/September I didn't think I had to as the 'half' job on insulation I did was doing the job....racks went in and tanks were set up but when December came around I was looking at around 15 heaters almost on constant!.....with a VERY hefty electric bill the lesson was learnt!!!........Anyway i'm sure you have this boxed ha

I'm going to go with the insulated slabs and get my mate to skim over it then. What thickness of board im not sure yet.
Any ideas on the door especially the joins around the door ? I'll need to to seal when I close it

Hi ive got a 16 x 10 block shed fishroom 7" insulation in the roof and 4" on the walls. i found it cheaper to space heat the room with an oil rad. i heat to 82 degrees and the water in the tanks stays at 77 to 78. are you going to use heaters or space heat?

Finally got to start a little work on the fish shed. Should be in the new hse by the weekend so it'll all systems go on the shed then
I picked up the steel for the internal cage for the insulation. Dug the trench for the water and electricity. Drilled the shed for the water and got the cables in for the electricity

Just a suggestion, before you back fill the trench with the electric cable, cover the cable with yellow warning tape, any good hardware store will sell it. Incase at some time in the future some one is digging in that area and cuts the cable.
