White spot?
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all
Hope some one can help me with this. i have had my tank set up for just over 2 months and have been adding fish for a month and a half. as a beginner to the world of tropical fish i have what i was told to be hardy fish they were introduced over a 2 week period (2 platys, 1 black widow, 1 guppy and 2 glowlight tetras).Unfortunately I have had some deaths 1 black widow died and 1 guppy died a couple of days after introducing them to the tank. But I learned from these( i think i introduced too many at one time) and now all the fish are active and interactive even the glowlights now come to the top of the water for their dinner.I do weekly water tests and they are all coming back perfectly and 20 - 30% water changes every 2 weeks.however 2 weeks ago the black widow seemed to develop white spot which i treated with anti-white spot + and it went away.None of the other fish developed the white spot so i thought it was all done with. But when I looked in the tank this morning its back. But instead of little white spots he has just 1 big white spot at the side of his mouth but not on his mouth.I thought at first it was mouth rot but it isnt on his mouth its just by his mouth and it doesnt seem to be stopping him eating (he could eat for Ireland if he was allowed!).He is still active swimming around with the others and he is still interested in his food and he comes to the front of the tank when i walk past.
Any suggestions on what it is would be really appreciated and how do i treat it.
thanks
Emma

Does the filter in ur tank have carbon it in? and did you remove it when using meds for white spot.
i had the same problem two weeks ago... were any of ur fish bullying each other? coz strees can bring on white spot and other sickness.
Have you done a water change since useing the meds and did you condition the water?
Have you any other tanks? and if so do you use the same cleaning stuff, nets or put hands in both tanks soon after each other

Esha 2000 is def the way to go!" It will sort it out. If you can try moving the infected fish to a seperate tank to stop the others from getting it!

Yeah I had carbon in the filter but i took it out before doing the treatment and left it out for 7 days then did a 20% water change. But left the new water in a bucket over nite with the stuff to take the cholrine out of the water in it.
thanks for the suggestion on the medication i will try that coz i really dont want the other fish to get it.Im just in the process of setting up a hospital aquarium and the water tests are not coming back as suitable for putting him so dont have anywhere to put him just yet.It never even dawned on me to set up a hospital aquarium when i set up my tank.
