Tetratec external filter ex700.
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

If i were you i would cut up all ther old filter material from your old internal and place it on different trays of your new ex700. I would leave it there for as long as possible, personally about 2 months to ensure that the tank will not get any ammonia nitrite spikes.
i take it the tank has a few fish in it so by keeping most of the filter material going they will not suffer any water quality issues and the new sponges will have plenty of time to get good bateria growing on them.
I would test the water frequently to make sure you get no spikes but it should be fine.
What fish do you keep???
Hope all goes well

Great to hear the filter fitted

I agree with gb to cut up the old filter sponge and put it in the different trays and leave it there for as long as possible. Should be plenty of room for it

Alternatively (and I really think you should consider) just setting up the EX700 and run it with the old internal.
The EX700 should take about a month to cycle fully.
Then it would be safe to remove the old one.
Also, and I don't meant to scaremonger, the Tetratecs can leak, so it might be wise not to destroy your old filter until you are happy with the new one.

Leave the old filter in as a backup, better to run as 2 seperate systems and alternate the cleaning of them!!!!

agree with what the previous posts said, run the two together for the first month or so.
I bought a tetratec 700 a couple of months back and just added it to the existing jewel rio 400 set up , both are running together now.
in regards to them leaking , that was a problem that is long since sorted, if by any chance you have bought one of the old stock and it does leak a bit contact the makers and they will send you out replacement parts to solve the problem (free of charge)
imo the tetratec 700 is the best 70 or 80 euro i have spent on any of my tanks and intend to add more of the same to my other tanks . definitly a ten out of ten filter.
regards
