Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi Welcome to this great hobby!!! Fishkeeping is about water quality, do you have a test kit?
Thats alot of fish in a relatively small tank!! Parroon sharks (Pangassius santawongsi??) get MMASSIVE.. your gonna need at least 2 external filters and eventually a MUCH bigger tank!!! Think you need to do a bit of research... Call up to me in Aquatic Village or PM me...

Welcome to the hobby indeed!

How long has the tank been established?. You can give a try to easy life filter medium, it makes the water crystal clear and all parameters are at good levels too. I have been using some time now, I used to have algae problem and it disappeared and no fish died since usage.

You can order from zooplus.ie

Hey there,
You have a lovely collection of fish there! As the others say it's a bit of a crazy mix but it's working for now.some of your fish indeed grow huge, oscars, paroon shark, tinfoil barbs...and not at the same rate.Unfortunately you will have to part from some of your fish unless you dramatically upgrade.I'm thinking that there must be a lot of food going in that tank and not sure the filter is able to handle that amount.
First i'd check the water quality, the water says a lot:) .
how often do you do water changes and what volume of water do you change?Tell us a bit more about your tank:)
Dimitri

is that the the Vietnamese River cobbler ??

I recently saw Tesco selling a "White Fish in Batter" and wondered about the ingredients, when I saw "pangasius" on the listing I put the box back in the freezer and left the aisle quickly.

You can get fresh fillets of "Panga" in france but no fish monger will be able to tell you what type of fish it is......all they know is:"lovely white firm fillet with no bone!"
Most catfish are like that, central bone with dorsal and ventral rays but no tiny killer bones + firm white fillets!

completely out of subject but thought i'd share it anyway....:P
