Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I bought two fish on Saturday and noticed yesterday that they have white spot. I've removed them from the tank.Do I need to treat the tank for white spot though my other fish seem ok. I use Organic Aqua.

Hi,
First no stress, white spot is not too bad and mostly easily treated.
What type of fish are they and also did they have white spot before or after you introduce them to your tank?
Sometimes if you introduce fish a little to quick they can get stressed and get WS.
If they had white spot before, contact the shop where you got your fish and ask if they have any problem with the tank your fish come from.
Either way,you can do a white spot treatment as prevention in your main tank,Protozin is a good treatment.
Let us know how you get on.
Dimitri.

Thanks Dimitri. After putting in the protozin do I forget about it or do I have to do something to remove the med after the week. I dont think they had white spot when I brought them home though the previous batch in the shop had white spot. The patients are a blue and gold ram. Its my second attempt to add rams to the tank. A few weeks ago 2 blue rams lasted about a week. Maybe the tank is too busy for rams?? I have rainbows, a panchax, black skirted tetra, danios and assorted barbs.
On a different note Im installing an external filter this weekend and a bit nervous about that. Ive been reading all the posts on externals snd thanks everybody for all the info.

Hi Louis,
Protozin is a 4day course day1,2,3 and 6(but you can dose through out the 6days without negative effects.if you have carbon in your filter, remove it as it filters the treatment out of the water.Protozin is safe and litterally disappears but a partial water change won't hurt...
You might be right though about having barbs and rainbows.it could be a little hectic in the tank for rams.
what way is your tank decorated?is there loads of plants and decorations or is it a bit bare?
Dimitri

I had a rock decoration in the tank with a few artificial plants but 10days ago took out the rock and put ia a good few silk plants.probably no real secure hiding spot.My other tank is a lot more peaceful and has a bolivian and gold ram who are doin fine. Recently added a beautiful Krib as well who is very shy, rarely shows herself. Thanks again for the advise. When I get over the white spot scare I might try again.
