Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Ich/Whitespot Help Please

Hi, I think I have whitespot/Ich too. I'm not sure because I've never seen it IRL before, only pics and what I've read on the 'net.

We have a new (5 weeks/cycled) 180L Tank. Last Saturday we bought 4 Blue Holland Rams and 1 Calico Angelfish. Everything was ok till this morning when I noticed the Rams had what looked like a sprinkling of salt on them.

Also in the Tank are:

4 Longfinned Zebra Dannios
6 Neon Tetra
2 Golden Dwarf Gourami
5 Red Tail Tetra
1 Common Pleco

They are fed NLS 1mm sinking pellets

We just started keeping fish since last June. The Dannios, Neon Tetra, Gouramis, and Pleco we have had since June in a smaller tank.

Any advice would be gratefully accepted :)

I better say "Hello" too, I've been lurking for a while

First of all welcome to the forum.

What you have is almost certainly whitespot both from your description and also the blue rams are very prone to this parasite. What I have used luckily only once before to treat this is protozin whitespot and fungus by 'Waterlife'. Follow the basic instructions on the bottle remembering to remove the carbon(if used) and also to increase your water temperature to 28c.
This needs to be treated ASAP.

Also get a good quality flake food for your fish and just use the pellets for your pleco.
Hope this helps. Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated :) It's the first time I've had any problems so was in a bit of a panic earlier but the more I've read about it the more I'm satisfied that it is whitespot/ich.

But I have another problem now. I asked my OH to pick up the Protozin (I saw the other Thread about it) but he was advised by the LFS to get "Fungus, Finrot & Bacteria Treatment" by eSHa 2000. When we read the instructions they said if the fish had whitespot another product called "eSHA Spot Stop" needed to be used along with the eSHa 2000 to treat it. (I hope you are still with me )

So what to do? We decided to go ahead and start the treatment with the esHA 2000. And tomorrow get the Spot Stop. Or would we be better off just trying to get the Protozin?

I'm a bit like this :S :S :S at the moment.

This is the Fish Food I'm using. It's on the top row, "Community 1mm sinking" The pellets are tiny-not like the pellets you normally give Plecos. It's supposed to be one of the best, though I'm loosing heart a bit with the advice I'm getting from some LFSs

Not familiar with that product at all but the protozin bottle specifies not to use simultaneosly with other medications! I would keep your bacteria, finrot etc bottle for just that in the future (if needed) and go ahead with your Spot Stop tomorrow but raise your temperature now.

All The Best Dave:cheer:

Hi,
welcome to the forum.
eSHA 2000 is a general anti fungus and anti bacterial treatment you can use for white spot but personally i think Protozin is effective and not as harsh.elevating the temperature as Dave said is a good thing to do as it shortens the parasite life cycle making it easier to treat.also it heightens fish's metabolism making its immune system a little stronger.a little tonic salt would be helpful too.
Get your water tested to make sure all your water parameters are good.
Hope this helps.
Dimitri.
