Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Way too many fish, like Oscars, there will be a lot of uneaten food and biological waste to boot, reduce stock by half and decide on fish for high ph or low ph not both. I never understand having one thing in a setup that reduces ph like Bogwood and another that raises it like calcareous rock. you need to research your fish and your decorations and your substrates, nice tank tho, you could work wonders with it..

You have have a mix of fish that just doesnt work. With the fish you just listed they all need totally different water conditions to survive also the arawana needs and 400l tank to him self really they grow quite big what size is he....?

The african cichlads need completely different water conditions to arawana.

You are looking at a major problems with the mix of fish you have, some of them grow big like they knife fish.

You will ahve to get more tanks, sell some of the fish or bring them back to were you got them.

You have probably too many fish even for a ten foot tank there!!!

You will never achieve water clarity, I truly am surprised you haven't suffered a tank wipeout - really!!!

You state you have an Arowana? - That will be too large a fish for your sized tank on its own...and a Red-Tail Catfish? Similar comment applies. Tinfoil Barbs will grow to over a foot in length, as will the BGKs, not sure about optimum size of the 'Paroon Sharks' but I've seen some huge ones which weren't fully grown...

I wanted to check that this wasn't April 1, honestly.

Your tank, while being a comparatively large aquarium will comfortably be the right size for your two Oscars, with perhaps one or two other Cichlids (until they breed, if they turn out to be a pair).

And on top of all this you have a Birchir ordered? - You really have to reassess your stocking regime - or buy a 12ft tank!!!

i hope you dont think we're all ganging up on you as this is a site for friendly advice but man that tank is waaaaaaaaaaaaay over stocked!

did you do any research on the fish you have in it before you bought them?

your tank has the potential to be a great tank,
i'd kill for a 400lt tank!

just a bit of a shame you've thrown in fish that simply can't be put together either by bad advice from your LFS or not doing any research on them on your part

hopefully you take our constructive criticism on board and put it to good use and reduce your stock because down the road when those fish get bigger it'll be down right cruelty to have them in that tank

If you're going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you're going to be locked up.
