Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Feeding Fish

Just wondering how often people feed fish?

I have neon tertas, lemon tertras and tiger barbs. I feed them once a day enough that all food is eaten within 2 minutes but it appears that the tiger barbs go for some of the plants in the tank and often uproot some of them. Is this a sign I'm not feeding them enough?

Hi,
the way you are feeding is good, you could maybe divide the amount of food in two and feed twice a day but depending on the type of plant, tiger barbs will nibble them.
you can also get some "vegetarian" type food but i don't think this will stop them from nibbling.
The other food i can think of is a JBL tablet you can stick on the glass and the one called novofect is well appreciated by barbs in general and other fish.the good thing about it is that it would take them some time to eat it as it is a tablet,so would keep them busier and maybe wouldn't feel the need to munch on your plants.i can give you a couple to try out if you like.:)

Thanks for the reply Dimitri and all the help over the last couple of weeks. Have been in and out of your shop alot over the last couple of weeks and you and the lads have been great.

Any info on the JBL tablet? I've also been advised to try some bloodworms from time to time? I might be in during the week/weekend to pick up a few more tetras so might talk to you then about it

Hi,
i'm glad you're satisfied with our service:) .thank you.
Blodworm is good as a treat but i wouldn't give too much of it,fish can get picky and turn their nose off dry food:(
So far these JBL tablets are quite good, less protein than most food, less fat and a good percentage of fibre.
i've been feeding mollies, platies, swords, all types of barbs and clown loaches, they all go mad for it!
maybe see you at the week end.
Dimitri.

as Dimitri has said your feeding plan seems good, I only change from this when i want to breed fish then i increase feeds to 3 small feeds a day?( as much as they'll eat in a minute), most of the time one of these feeds is a live food either microworm or whiteworm or armetia to condition them. thats my pennys worth anyway hope it helps
