What do people think of this deal?

Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I'm interested in getting a bigger tank but with funds low I'd be looking to swap do a deal
Cam across this add on boards.ie
www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=217335&cpage=2#poststart
Add was marked as sold but I have been talking to the sellter and he is interested in a trade for a 40gb PS3 with 4 games
Doesnt come with a stand. He said its basically a rio 180
I'd be looking to set up some sort of Chichlid tank.

I personnally dont think swapping a 40gb PS3 with 4 games for a 180 litre tank without a stand and cover is worth it?!
Your choice though, what did you do?

Havent done anything yet. Looking for some feedback first
Dont play the PS3 at all these days. I prefer the xbox
Is a cover defo needed? A stand will probably set me back €140

Yeah, i just have the xbox myself!
If you dont play the PS3 and have the xBox, then i suppose it wouldnt be to bad getting rid of the PS3 then?!
The problem not having a cover and keeping tropicals is that you'll get alot of water evaporation! You'll have to keep topping up with fresh dechlorinated water every day or two! With that tank as well, you'll get a water line around the top that wont be nice to look at?! Its like that lime build up, dya get me? Its crap cleaning it ha! A stand will be about 100 yoyo's too!
Did you look at any shops up the north?

look 4 a second hand stand, i prefare a lid as all sorts of foriegn objects can land in the tank, cleaning products and such, mine is open top and i find it builds up a film of gunk on the surface more so than wit a lid

u could make up ure own lid from WBP MDF for about 40 euro
or a cover glass for about the same
stick on 2 strips of 30mm glass, down 1" from the top, front and back about 1.5" from either end so ure cover glass can sit on it.you can use 6mm glass for all this.make sure u get the cover glass in 2 halves so it will be easier to feed ure fish.go to woodies and get 45-50mm black duct tape and run it around the top of the tank, this will hide the water stain that steveo told u about.some guys told me they went to ikea or argos and bought sideboards or tv units and put their tanks on with no problems and they look great, might be worth checkin out
hope this helps u out

Dont think its a good idea either mate, given the price of a rio 180 is only 330 with stand and lid. You'll pay more tryin to get a stand and lid. Why not sell your ps3 and games then buy the tank new? Gerry

I have to say Gerrys idea would be the way i would go. Sell your ps3 on adverts and use the €100 or so you wee gonna spend on the stand and get a complete setup. If your in Dublin ring round some of the sponsors, I'm sure some sort of deal could be done. Also if your not a member, join the club, get a card and get a discount in the sponsors.
