Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Water Stats, CO2 & NPK (EI) Question

I have recently re-started my Jewel Rekord 70. I have used JBL Manado substrate over John Ines No.3 compost. I have also removed the original Jewel flter unit and opted for an eheim ecco pro 300.

Tank is going great. The water is so clear with this pump. It's a 70 litre tank so the water is filtered over 10 times per hour at peak filter performance!

I'm also using a cheapo CO2 system "Tetra Plant CO2 - System" but it seems to be going well, or at least it's not going bad!

I'm adding 1.5 ml of easycarbo per day and 10ml of trace plant nutrients per week.

I'm looking into getting macro nutrients (NPK) to try the EI method but maybe this is overkill? Also, where can I buy the macro nutrients? None of my lfs's know what I'm talking about.

I'm treating with stinky "Microbe Lift" to get the nitrogen cycle going.

No fish yet but I'm planning on 6 Galaxy Rasbora (AKA Celestial Pearl Danio) and 6 Popondetta furcata.

My water stats today are:

GH: 180 ppm
KH: 200 ppm
PH: 7.4
NO2: 0, maybe 0.3 max ppm
NO3: 10 - 20 range ppm

I'm not sure if this is good though? Also does anyone know if you can over-do CO2? I'm following the product instructions and filling the CO2 diffuser twice a day and only doing this when the light will be on for a while.

I was thinking of getting an airpump on a timer to come on for a couple of hours soon after the lights go out i.e. to make sure the fish are getting enough O2. Does this seem like a good idea?

Thanks! Daniel.

Before you do anything read this web site www.rexgrigg.com/
The amount of nutrients you add to your tank all depends on the amount of light u have. macro nutrients can be acquired here www.aquaessentials.co.uk/dry-fertilisers...s-c-414_145_146.html
You can Overdose CO2 with dire consequences for fish and other fauna. All the info u need at rexgrigg
