Does the filter box come out?
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I've just wondering does the filter box in the Juwel Corner 190 come out easily. I want to take it out to cover it with a new background.
I can’t see any clips or anything attaching it to the glass. Can anyone advise?
Thanks All

2 or 4 black silicone blobs holding it on, long sharp thin blade, slice and peal filter off, it is handier than it looks.

Nope my tank is empty. I just thought I would get a better finish if I take out the filter box to put on the 3D background.
Do the tanks come with the filter attached when new or is it something the purchaser does when it’s brought home?
(I bought mine second hand so it was already attached)

Yeah they come fitted mate. Also, you are right that it would look a lot better with the filter box removed, not to mention the amount of space you will free up.

Everybody with a Juwel seems to end up doing this. Makes me wonder why they bother fitting them.
My guess would be the selling point is they come with a built in filter. Throw in a heater and you have a new aquarist parting with a lot of cash for a new tank.

Not me , what I intend doing is taking the filter out , covering the filter with the 3D background as well and reattaching it back in the tank.
I dont want to go to the expense of buying an external filter at this stage

I had trouble taking one out with a knife so I used some fishing line. Once you feed the line down and catch both ends you can move the line back and forward to cut through the silicone.
I use undergravel filters. 1 powerhead in the corner saves room. Plants to hide the up pipe.

Yes it's easy but take your time, the glass can and will break if you force it, a flat, long paint scraper will work easily, I've removed three of these, no breaks, dont try going in all gung ho, work from the side and cut thru it a little at a time.
