Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Need some help lads. My guppys keep on nipping at the fins of my mollys. I'm not sure what to do. I have lost 2 mollys, which I assume is because they are relentlesly being persued by the guppys. Since my previous post I have gotten the ammonia down and the water parameters are now stable. I have 3 guppys, all male. My tank is fully stocked so can't get any females. They seem to always go for the side fins of the mollys. Any advice what to do? They are really starting to annoy me now! Any advice would be very welcome.:)

Hi,

I had one of my male guppies doing the same to my neon tetras. After posting a question about it here on the forum I was told that it probably was a territorial male.

My male eventually calmed down a little bit when more guppies had grown into adults(he was alone with several females at first), but I ended up moving the neons as it never really stopped.

I don't know what i would do in your situation, do you have a second tank?

Can you ask your lfs to exchange your 2 males for 2 females and then the other male will enough to ocupy himself with other wise get rid of the males as this doesn't stop.

Having no female guppies in the tank is probably the reason your mollies are being harrassed....Male guppies are shall we say very sexually driven :P ......It is suggested to keep 3 females for every male if you want to keep guppies.....

The males are always lookin to get their end away :P so havin 3 females for each male spreads out the harrassment the females experience from the horny males.........

Because you have no females the males are stressed causing them to nip the mollies fins....Its just my opinion but im guessing your male guppies are needing to relieve their sexual tension :P.....

Guppies are not technically a schoaling fish but alot of people say they do much better when they are kept in a school of say 12 (3 males and 9 females for instance).......

Im afraid I agree with "houseofmil".........you need to try swap a couple of your boys for girls........
With guppies its gotta be always more girls than boys.......They breed like hell and the boys are sex addicts LOL.....And as you can imagine the poor girls need rest from time to time :P
