Painting tank?
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all
From a previous reply I got to a thread where I was trying to decide between 3 D backgrounds has led me in a new direction
Pete mentioned he painted the back of his tank black. What do people think of doing this as opposed to the 3D backgrounds?
I know it’s a matter of personal taste but would love to hear opinions on the idea.
I have never seen an example” in the flesh” and if anyone has links or pictures of painted backgrounds it would be great .
Thanks
Barr

well its cheaper thats for sure!!!
i dont have any painted backgrounds, but i have a solid black & an electric blue background,
i use self adhesive vinyl for mine, the same stuff sign writers use,
not as messy as paint and looks way better,
plus it helps that i get it for free!!!

thats what i do..

Thanks for the replies
Hi fishmad1234 - your tank looks amazing. My tank is different though in that it’s a corner unit and I would have to cover two sides.
I was thinking when I covered the two sides it may look a bit enclosed where as the black paint would make the tank look bigger.

I just painted my tank black some weeks ago, very easy and cheap, I just used a spray can.
Posted in another thread but anyway:
I love 3d backgrounds but painted ones can be very nice too. I my opinion it depends on what you are gonna keep in it, I wanted a dark shady look so I went for black.

The vinyl sounds a better idea as it probably could be taken off if I fancied a change or was selling the tank on
Where would a good place be to buy the self-adhesive vinyl?

if you go into any sign writers im sure they would sell you some,
its not that expensive, not sure of the price,
i think its the only job, just be careful not to get any air bubbles when putting in on,
give the glass a good clean, spray the glass with water before you start this will make it easier to work with, incase you make a mistake,
if you do end up with some small air bubbles you can use heat on them to get of them.
