Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Im sure you can put the smaller ones with lots of shells and rocks since you have a large enough tank BUT this will bound to make many here frown upon you

TBH dont go there :)

All the best.

you could try some geophagus surinamensis or some german blue rams or any types of apisto s.

john h and stretnik are fairly well versed in dwarf cichlids.

craig

at the end of the day it becomes nite

angels and convicts are cichlids

just be wary that if the convicts start to breed they will most likely take over half that tank, they are fekkers for breeding and the other fish will not be able to stand up to them

I can see those convicts eventually eating guppies n danios... Angels might too..

dwarf cichlid would be the way to go... how about some apistogramma?

Personally id get some bottom dwellers like loaches or some cory's..

you have more than enough cichlids in the angels and convicts, as said your gonna have trouble, i'd contemplate moving the rest of the fish and get bigger ones to put in wit the convicts or visa versa

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

ive never had convicts but from reading some sites a while back, i read they can attack bigger fish, oscars and the such and successfully kick them around, but the bigger fish will stand more of a chance. you could try a school of tiger barbs these might be fast enough to evade attack

they will take on all comers when they are breeding, i seen mine put back 2 oscars 3 times their size,
after awhile the other fish just avoid them, i had silver dollars in with mine aswell and there was no problem.
you have a big enough tank that you should be ok, as long as they dont breed bang in the centre of the tank!!:)
as for tank makes you cant go wrong with cichlids, severums, geo's,salvini's,green terror, acaras, jack dempseys... there all good if you ask me..

i have a friend who had 2 pairs of convicts breed either side of a 4foot tank, the pirahna's were stuck in the middle taking a beating

either go for the above mentioned cichlids, or you could get some dither fish (tiger barbs were mentioned) like bala sharks or bigger barbs, they will be more imposing to the cichlids and fast but the only thing is the welfare of the dither fish

originally it was around 250l, then he built one around 1000l, its 6x3x3foort approx and put them all in there. he has since moved the piranha on, but now has an arowana, oscar, pacu, big catfish and more in there, and still the convicts breed and hold their own
