Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi below are a list of the fish im keeping, tank running month now everyone getting on grand, took the RTS out he wasn't playing well with the Danios. Anyway my problem or query the cherry barbs are sticking to the plants the bottom half of the tank is well planted but ive been watching feeding time and the tigers are hammering all the food im not sure the cherrys are getting enough if any. How do i sort this.

12 Danios(Zebra)
12 Tiger Barbs
15 Cherry Barbs
4 Albino Barbs
4 SAE
1 American Flag Fish
1 RTS
5 Corys
1 Pleco.

John,
I suspect that the Cherry Barbs are getting a bit 'overpowered' by the more active species and the more active Tiger Barbs are causing the Cherries to stick to the comparative safety of the plants.
Although both are classed as Barbs they are entirely different in behaviour.
However, if you've had them for over a month and they are still looking healthy you can rest assured they are getting their share of the food.
If you would like to make sure they are getting more, my suggestion would be to feed the 'loose' feed and at the same time put in a couple (possibly more, you would need to watch 'points') of a pellet food such as Tabimin in the area where the Cherries congregate.
Any other suggestions for John?

John.

Replied by stretnik (stretnik) on topic Re: Are they all getting fed...
I had the same problem Decades ago, I resolved it by simply mixing larger Food with the smallest of Food that way the larger fish concentrated on finding the bigger pieces and the smaller Fish got their Food more easily.

I've d same worry. What works for me is I throw in some large flakes which d more active fish go for at the top of the tank and then put in the tiny NLS pellet food which sinks quite fast and gives the middle / bottom feeders a chance.

apologies for the slight hijack but has anyone had fish that didn't get food and die from hunger or get so thin they had to be moved? i have oddessa barbs, golden gourami and three boesmani rainbows and they are savages at feeding time and there is murder in the tank, but my little gimpy neon who is in rag order (old age, i have him about 4 year) still gets his feed. i put my food straight into the flow of the filter and it spreads the food all over

Cheers lads, the tigers are super to watch im thinking about adding another ten or so big enough tank, ive a power head on the tank ican drop the food into the flow also picked up spectrum fish pellets. They should sink.

Cheers again...

It probably got 'wore out' trying to chase the food in the 'jetstream'!

Older fish are like older folk - need more consideration!
