Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I went out and got one of thoes filters which is just the sponge so the wont get sucked in and have the liquifry.

how fast do they grow and how long do i feed them on the liquifry before moving them onto flake any other food.

How long before I can move the adults back into the tank

Sponge filter will stop them getting sucked in....

Liquid fry for about a week...after that you can crush up flake food and feed that...if you want you could even turn off the sponge filter for a few minutes to allow them grab it at the surface...just make sure you turn it back on!I find some microworms are great for them.
Id put them back into the other tank once they are big enough to handle themselves and not get eaten.I usually wait about a month or so personally but with anything, fry will grow at different rates depending on food, temp etc..

wat do you have the adults in at the moment? and how many adults are we talking? 60 ltr is fairly small and would be ideal for a fry tank alone

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

the adults are in a 40l there is only 4 of them left most of them died shortly after buying them especially the guppies didnt last a week males died first then the females quite strange and i have tested and retested the water and its fine

went to get micro worms today but the lfs didnt have them so i got a brine shrimp hatchery and am breeding my own shrimp to ensure healthy fish

R2,

Since the tank is just 60 litres, use a pyrex jug. If a fry should happen to get into the jug by chance, it will be nice and easy first of all to see its there and second of all to release it ;)

you get everything needed shrimp eggs and all great tool you just hook an airline hose up to it (hose included) only need an air pum buy you get a 2 way jack so just hook it onto your normal airstone
really cool stuff and it only takes the eggs 48 hours to hatch
