Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Just stunning pictures ,how many shrimp tanks do you have going , reckon some of them must be hard to keep . I have just red cherries and crystal red , but you have put mine to shame . Do they breed for you . More pictures please
Hi Robert, i will put pictures of the rest of my shrimp later. Yes i breed them, i have 22 shrimp tanks running at the minute. Saddly i stopped breeding red cherries a few years ago to make space for other species

But why are shrimp so expensive to buy?
Red cherrys breed like crazy, when it comes to some of yours, are they that much harder to get to breed/raise, hence the prices are more?
Some of the sponsors on here charge €40 each or even €80 for 3 shrimp!
I know some fish cost a fortune, but they do get bigger and 1 fish does look good in a tank, but 1 shrimp looks stupid, so you need to buy a few.
Anyway, I really like your photos, thanks for posting them.

My tanks range from 25 L to 60 L.22 tanks for shrimp!! Well I suppose they are in smaller tanks than many of our tropical or Marine fish.

Red cherries are really forgiving but most of my shrimp are not. It takes a bit of practice to understand their needs to ake them thrive. Once you know, they are less work to breed and raise than fish.
Lfs have overeads than hobbyist dont have so the prices are much higher.
Some shrimp in asia can cost in the thousand of dollars and people will happily pay that as they understand that a new strain of shrimp take years to create, my skunk took me 2 years and i bred 1000s to get only a few individals which are not breeding true yet

Obviously shrimp is more my thing than fish so i wont comment on which should cost more

Pinto is a breeding line from germany so you wont be making pintos by crossbreeding, you either buy some pintos or some f1 or both and breed themLove your pintos. That is my next breeding project but need some good quality tigers fist?

Send me a message with how many you need and will have a look in my tankThanks Anthony, might try to get some F1 and see what i get from the offspring. Do you have a reliable source for F1 in Germany?
Thanks,
Stephen
