Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Allright guys last reminder

SUNDAY 2PM at the Horse & Hound in Cabinteely for whoever can make it. We can talk fish until we grow scales.
I think we should be between 5-8 people so no point in booking a table i think.

Anyone deciding to come in last minute is more than welcome.

Great meeting up guys. Talked about fish for hours without anyone rolling their eyes! We'll have to do this again in another month or two

I think today 5 of the most talkative lads in the hobby joined together LOL
It was a lot of fun.
We will do this more often. Last year we were 4, this time 5, perhaps 6 next time :)

In any case it could have been 2 of us it would have been fun as well. As long as all are passionate about the hobby.

Some topics discussed today to give others a glimpse of what goes on:

- Current projects
- DIY stuff
- sharing info about various species of fish
- diet and personal heath issues (people's diet, yes we went off topic LOL)
- some talk about fish shops and well known people in the hobby
- recent events in the hobby: shrimp presentations
- What if? What if we had massive houses full of fish tanks

anyways there is no set topic, just a great time, and the chance to get so much knowledge from really knowledgeable people. Don't miss the next one.

You do not have to have a tank to participate, you can keep any fish. You can keep 1 goldfish in a bowl (we'll kill you :) ) or you can keep guppies. Cheap fish expensive fish rare fish common fish we all love them they all have fascinating stuff and if you dont know it you will find out about it.

OK i can take suggestions for the next date.

Have a lovely week.

I'm pleased your event went off successfully Stephane,
I wish you further success for future events.

It's worth (again) pointing out that the ITFS holds monthly meetings to which all are invited - be they members or not - (second Tuesday of every month) where all manner of fishy topics are discussed all evening - I note that they're actually organising a Table Show tomorrow evening too.

Thanks for the reminder. I find it hard to get out of my house at that time on a Tuesday.
Once I land home after work i don't usually like to go anywhere. weekends are different.

Hello,
Lemonjelly and I were thinking of repeating the fishy get-together more regularly in order to try to get some momentum or regularity into it. So far we've done it 2 times and we all had a great time and a great chat.

I would like to suggest a new date and that would be 4th or 5th of June.
Time we usually set at 2PM and place is the Horse & Hound in Cabinteely.

- We are not against a change of venue
- We are open for dates and times - HOWEVER as soon as we get caught in endless replies about 1 million suggestions the event suddenly never happens, so if within a few replies we don't all agree i will just set it up as per the majority's requests.

I'm up for that. Let's try and get a few more there this time. A few hours of fishy chat with people who won't roll their eyes or nod off... who can turn that down?
