Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

New Year Resolution(s)...

After just reading Katherine's post regarding looking back to last year's achievements it got me thinking about resolutions I ought to make regarding the coming year.

For myself I would like to seriously consider building an outside Fish House as the idea of using a spare room as a Fish Room hasn't really been as successful as I had hoped it would have been.

I would also like to try to get along to some Club meetings next year since any time talking to like-minded people about Fish (even Marines) is time enjoyably spent.

We are hoping to introduce a few new initiatives for the Forum in due course (watch this space) and we have some prizes pledged already for them.

Very personally (again) I really have to get my camera out of mothballs this year and take some snapshots as everyone likes to see others' Fish (I do myself, but don't like to admit it).

And I really must try to get back into serious Fish-breeding when the warmer weather finally arrives.

And on a lighter note I'm hoping we might have a 'meet and greet' day outing somewhere, it's nice to meet fellow Fishkeepers - especially ones you have conversed with all year long and get to know them in person.

And...if my water supply ever returns - I have rather a lot of water changes to catch up on!!!

Happy New Year to you all.

John

My New Year's resolution is simple.....

I'm giving up listening to anyone asking if I'm stopping smoking in the new year.

That was mine too and I am sticking to it.

On the fish-keeping side and I probably won't stick to this, I never do, it is to reduce the number of tanks I have, I would like to get down to the twenties.

My only two.

Smoke less this year, have been puffin like mad 2010 and need to cut back to the 10 enjoyable ones only.
Rescue more Clown Loaches from small brightly lit undecorated LFS tanks.

i've gave this long and hard thought and i've decided the one thing i need to give up is.....giving stuff up, wats the point, i very rarely drink these days, i don't smoke ciggarettes, all i have is oxygen, food and water

i will try limit the madness but it would do more harm than good to bottle it all up, so small bursts is the order of the day, sure quality over quantity is more important don't ya think

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

This 'food for thought' was sent to me by a friend.
It sort of seems somewhat appropriate for the New Year:

Please, take care of yourself in 2011.

A recent joint study conducted by the Department of Health and the Department of Motor Vehicles indicates that 23% of traffic accidents are alcohol related.
This means that the remaining 77% are caused by people who just drink coffee, carbonated drinks, juices, milk, water, and stuff like that.
Therefore, beware of those who do not drink alcohol. They cause three times as many accidents.

The other 77% is caused by drinkers rushing to the pub cos they haven't had a drink yet:)
