Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

We are very pleased to have Daragh Owens make a return trip to our club night as a presenter, his last trip in August 2010 about Corydoradinae was hugely informative.
This time Daragh will be talking about fish from " behind the lens" in his presentation about photography. I know this is something that will prove very popular, not only has Daragh provided us with some outstanding photo and video in our forum thread "Photos and Video" but we all would like to see how we can present our fish in the best possible way to other enthusiasts.
So I'd say we should all bring along a paper and pen and get ready for some serious note-taking.
This should prove to be another very interesting night. Meeting starts from 8.30.
Regards
Andrew

Hopefully Johnh can make it, he is a much more experienced photographer than I am.
Anyone that wants suggestions on using their camera, please bring it along, much easier to work with the camera in hand.

Obviously it has worked !
Anyway, let's not allow this very important post get lost in banter...
Meeting next Tuesday at Rosey's - with a much anticipated talk from Daragh Owens on Fish photography.
Well worth the trip for members and non-members alike.
Bring your camera along - as Daragh suggests.
I'll fetch my Kodak Brownie box camera if I can make it

this might be the one, seeing as i am moving. is there a champagne reception?
For you...................
No!
But do go - and fetch your camera, you know - the one you're always slagging for not being 'very good' (or words to that effect).
Perhaps the talk might convince you it's not the camera at fault but - God forbid...the operator.

This really promises to be a great evening's meeting.
All that would be missing would be some old plonker telling you how to get 'no points' in the Forum's Photo Competitions! - Wait a minute - I could do that!!!

For those who'd like to enter the various competitions....then a few hours to give some insight to winning sponsors goodies isn't bad either.

See you all later.

Hats must go off to our beloved Chairman John Gannon who has put so much effort into arranging and cajoling people into doing various presentations, I think it is his turn now, he deserves his moment in the spot-light.
Can't wait.

For anyone who missed it - you really did miss a very excellent talk - and to think I taught him all he knows!
I can't wait for the next Photocomp, I am willing to bet that with all my new-found photographic knowledge I will double me score in the voting (to two).
Great evening, I'm glad I came, even though my (now ancient) satnav couldn't find Rosy's - thanks to Andrew I got there with minutes to spare (I really could write a book, you know...).

I thought our @Dar was going to turn up for some reason (there must have been a hint in a post I saw)......he may have been there, I don't know as I wouldn't recognise him anyway.
And I'll double second the pressure on John Gannon to give a talk.

I had fully intended to go to this meeting but had to give it a miss due to getting a nights work (typical bad timing at its best but I couldn't turn down the nights work as money is a bit scarce lately...)
it's a pity as it would have been the first meeting for Me to attend and Daraghs talk offered great incentive...
ah well, life goes on...
I'll definitely make the effort to go to the next one as I truly am disappointed to have missed the talk and the meeting...

He is tiny, that hole is about 2mm across.
The crab at 2:15 is a hermit of some kind, though not the usual ones, he has branched antennae that I have not seen on hermits before. There is a normal hermit beside him later in the video and you can see the difference.
