Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I'll be straight to the point what's the best food overall for malawi cichlids, new life spectrum or new era African cichlid pellets.? I'm due to get some at the weekend just wondering what everybody else feeds.
Cheers Damien

man i think this is a case of personal choice between yourself and your fish. one might be the best thing since sliced bread but your fish might not take to it. trial and error and wat not

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

Ive been using NLS the last few months and the cichlids relish it. The stuff has eveything they need nutrition wise, no hormones and promotes great colour. A bit pricey but worth it in my opinion.

Both new life spectrum and new era are very highly rated. I personally use new life spectrum just easier to get hold of for me, my fish seem to love it but there not cichlids but I'm sure the quality is the same for all there foods. I think either would be great but the important thing to do is have variety. Either of these foods would be a good staple diet.

I took the plunge today and got nls 300g for 12euro which isn't bad. I'll do a bit of a review on it in a couple of weeks to let you know how it goes. Thanks for all your input.

Have used both before for my malawis; personally i find that the NLS whilst more nutritious(not everyone may agree) makes the tank go cloudier/dirtier faster compared to New Era as theres definitely more fish poo(reddish brown in colour); so more water changes needed :)

Yeah; do let us know how you get on.

Having used NLS for almost 6 weeks I can only say good things about it. The fish are active feed well and the water quality isn't affected. There is a subtle improvement in colouration, but then it was never too bad anyway. One thing I will say is my female lab had previously spawned only once months ago, but 2 weeks after I started feeding NLS she was holding.

Will you now try new era and note the difference if any? or are you just a believer now of nls?
congrats too on the prospective yellow lab fries.
