Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin
i'm back!

however, angling has really taken over and i've been out more this winter than all of last summer!
a few snaps from my latest sessions:
34lb 2oz bag of silvers (pb) with a 3lb 2oz hybrid (also pb) caught 2 weeks ago
wee perch caught this week in clare - first time jigging
angry wee pike on the waggler when blanking for carp last month
anyway, good to see the forum is still very active and the powers-that-be decided to keep the angling section running

If you want a day out on Derg (before the morons get back out with their jetskis, speedboats and water skiers) let me know - I think my boat still holds water!

Derg - boat is moored at Portumna (at least it was last Autumn). I just need to retrieve my outboard from Galway. We should locate a few Pike and possibly even an early Trout (all to be returned though - boatman's rule.

I often pass by Ree when popping up to Boyle, are there areas which can be a] easily accessed (not too far from the car) and b] can be bank fished?

We can sort out something once I get our coconuts.
Going to look in at Tesco tomorrow - they definitely had some last time I was there.

sorry but i dont do sea fishing but wherever you normally go just ask around any local people fishing or where you buy your bait about fishing in winter. i think for the sea it does not make much of a difference just depends if the shoals are near the rocks or notHey Man,

You're on - is it all feeder fishing or are there any float stretches?

there is anything you like there - a platform on the water perfect for trotting a float, a solid enough bank for feeder fishing and all has car access to within a couple meters from the carparks
and if you dont fancy running water there is a spot of still water connected to the river that fishes very well especially if the river is up...
portumna is not too far from where i stay in clare, and as for the returning fish - i do that regardless, i have learned why anglers would get so frustrated with removal of fish
