Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Is there any place apart Corkagh Park Fishery in Leinster where you can do some float fishing without driving to Mullingar etc?
Cheers,
Buffalo

www.fishinginireland.info/trout/east/dublin/blessington.htm
It's predominantly Trout, but some Coarse Fishing in the reservoir too.
Here's a better link for Coarse Fishing around Dublin:

Have you looked at the Blessington Lakes?

Blesso lake would only be worth it if ye had a boat, wouldn't be a great fishing hole tbh but if the OP decided to try it you can buy the permits in charles camping and petrol stations in blesso. Ye can also hire boats from the garden centre on the n81 past blessington.
Sorry I'm no more help but I'm a trout fisher myself

Hi Davey, thanks for the input. I actually got cheap fly rod from adverts yesterday. I ve been fishing since I was 5 years old but never done any FlyFishing. I live on leson street and the dodder is just a stone throw away. I read hat the stretch between N11 and Ballsbridge is worth of trying, what kind of flyes should I use, size etc? Where can I buy them? What about the permit? Any help in that matter is much appreciated.
Thanks,
B

Has the regime changed at Finnamores Lakes? - I was told that a Carp fishing club had taken them over and that the charge was either €110 for the year, or €15 for a day permit, perhaps I was given the wrong info?

That's interesting - I have often driven past the Fly water at Cloghan (not a million miles from me) and have regularly wondered how it would be possible to get a permit for the lake. I must investigate further.

It apears to be correct as per info on their website. I couldn't find where to buy a permit though

bog lake on the heath has specemin carp, bream and rudd and i think a few others, never tried fishing it and not 100% on the price i was told 20 a while back for the day but maybe its come down a bit.
there is wallslough in kilkenny, not too far down the M8 and its a tenner for the day and when the fish are on its fantastic fishing only 3 foot deep, less in some spots, and stuffed with carp goldfish and koi amongst oddball hybrid carp/goldie/koi mixes. heats up in a flash and i've caught well casting a feeder to open water, but the "jungle" swims in the trees produce the best bags just fish heavy tackle (6lb line is fine - the biggest i seen from there was around 6lb i haven't heard of a double figure one being caught) to keep them out of the trees! dont use maggots there it is jammed with tiny rudd that will annoy you all day, unless the carp aren't having anything (happened to me in winter)
there is rathadaire lake near ballybrittas its hidden away a bit but good carp, tench and lots of rudd, as well as eel and the odd bream. it has some double figure pike in there too. its a tenner for the day. find ballybrittas fishing and camping supplies on facebook and ray in the shop just near portlaoise will give you a ticket and directions.
as for blesso lake, either a boat or use a feeder at range i haven't fished it but know lads that do and it can be a ball breaker according to them.
EDIT: sorry didn't check the date this was started

oh well, hope it helps someone out
