Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Sponsors' Sections are for the benefit of Sponsors - to tell us about new stock etc. not for anyone to ask specifics like you have here.
If you have a question for them please use the PM facility - as suggested previously).

You are quite right - as is Darren - Sponsors' sections should be locked to stop this very misuse.

We have had to pull people before for posting in Sponsors' Sections - even quite recently.

If you want to consider this as a personal attack I fear you have a bit of a persecution complex.

My personal feelings do not enter into this, you were advised in all sincerity as the the best plan of action to contact Sponsors - if you chose to ignore that advice, that's your prerogative.

Johnh is right in this one, people have been pulled on this before, cichlidguy by PMing you Johnh was trying to tell you how things are done on this forum WITHOUT trying to embarass you, and you have tried to embarass him with your response above, i know Johnh well and he's never the kind for personal attacks, cichlidguy you've obviously read his intentions wrongly and i feel your post up above does show a lack of maturity on your behalf, and I feel you owe him at least an apology publicly on the forum, he and the other mods and administrators have a hard enough time running this forum without taking public attacks from members, heck i've even had the very odd slap on the knuckles from Johnh and probably rightly so at the time, but i can get over it without resorting to public attacks. if your that paranoid about Johnh well i can tell you personally he's one of the most helpful fishkeepers/moderators on this forum and i'm sure 99.99999% of the other forum members will vouch for his integrety, even those like me who've had the odd slap on the wrist..

Johnh your efforts along with the other mods and admins are to be commended, i for one salute you for your integrety, honest and time you put into the forum

hold on a sec, why should anyone apologise publically? things are getting ironed out. that chap feels as though he is sounded out for special treatment and i'd feel the same. shea you posted in the sponsor section and nothing was said, i did too and again nothing was said. twice in a few days this fellow has and he gets it in the ear both times. ok rules are rules but they should be enforced on everyone. this is by no means an attack on anyone on my behalf as i think there is a bang up job been done by all, but if i was this chap i'd be seriously annoyed, he is here a long time and contributed some good posts. the forum needs as many experienced keepers as it can get and it would be a crying shame to lose him over something like this. enquiring about stock should be well permitted but price is a different story as other sponsors could hijack the deal with a better offer.

Ok not to point out the stupidly obvious but your arguing about posting in sponsors section in the sponsors section.
If you got P.M. prior to being repremanded in public than you got off lighter than some of us, I think this has gone further than it needs too there rules that everybody should have to follow and yes all repramanded equally to be fair.

I'm questioning the maturity of some of the posters here and its gone well off topic if nothing else this thread should be locked before one of these guys says something they could regret.

My advice is, from being a member of this Forum for almost 3 years is to shut up. This is coming from somebody who's also been reprimanded by Admin., on the wall, not by PM, to shut it.

I took the advice and moved on and even advised my then adversary on his subsequent post regarding a request for information. He accepted it and all is forgotten.

So Adi, send John a nice PM, be a man and forget it, we're not all perfect.

Dave

I hate authority, always have done but Irealised that for things to function, rules need to be put in place and adhered to if things are to flow properly.

FARE WELL AND GOOD BYE MEMBERS

look at this, wat the hell is wrong here. a slight misunderstanding and this happens

adi dont leave because of this. people (including myself) value your contributions. a slight mishap shouldn't result in this. i had my fair share of run ins here and even had (as i called them) "arch nemisis" at one stage(you know who you'se are lol) but i sorted it with a few of them and gained a lot of respect for them and now all is fine. at least we all know where we stand now. i believe a decision will be made on posting in this section very soon, but it should be locked or unlocked and no inbetween confussion
