Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Sorry to give you a load of questions and no answers :) looking at the pic you posted, there could be any number of causes, nutrient imbalance, lack of nutrients like iron, insufficient light and the list goes on :(

Can you give some details on your set-up?
What lights are you using? How many watts, and also the dimensions of your tank? Are you using co2?
What substrate you are using?
What is the temperature of the tank?
What are the water parameters in your tank? ph, nitrates etc
Also, can you post a pic showing more of the tank? What plants are affected or is it all your plants?

The temperature is towards the upper end of the range required for Amazon sword but it should be ok. Could be a cast of Iron deficiency, typically results in yellowing leaves. As the swords dray more nutrients from the roots that from the leaves, it could be worth trying root tab type of plant fertiliser. There are several brands available and you should be able to get them in any good lfs. They are simply pushed into the substrate close to the roots and will provide all the nutrients required by the plants.
Regarding your lights, the recommended light level for these plants is at least 0.5W per liter of water, so for your 200l tank, you would need about 50W of light at a minimum.
What’s the power rating of the lights in your tank?

looking at the one picture you posted it is very hard to make a call on any problem you have, if you have any problem at all, the picture you posted seems to show old leaves dying away and starting to decay (or leaves that started to grow earlier on, a month or so ago but were shook by something) along with one or two leaves that were on the plant when you bought it, but on the plus side the plant is also showing a couple of new leaves which to me look like perfectly healthy young growth showing no signs of damage or deficiency . stick up a few more, plus maybe a full tank shot so it would be easier to make a call, it is much easier to come to a decision when you can see the plant(s) as a whole
