Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

1. piping (2-5€ per 3m)
2. one way valve (not obligated) (2-5€)
3. Co2 Tank 2-5kg's (25€-150€)
4. Regulator (2way) with solenoid valve (50-150€)
5. Timer (IKEA 2 for 6€)
6. Drop checker (5-25€)
7. Drop checker solution (ready one or diy 4dKh solution + co2 reagent, usually Ph tester) (5-20€)
8. Bubble counter (5-25€)

* prices vary depending on system brand, type, quality and reseller (online or retail).
Can give you a link to two way regulator for 70 quit inc.postage from UK, no plastic pieces
and solid build (I have it on my co2 tank). co2 tank you
can get here from Homer (if he still has them
for sale) as a co2 extinguisher or you can get
expensive ones from well known aquatic brands.
rest of the bits and pieces you can get from e-bay
and cheap. The drop checker solution works much more expensive if you go for ready mix from LFS.
I've got 100ml 4dKh from ebay for cheap and jut adding 3drops of Ph test in one go.
If you need anything else, just ask.

Non return valve is a must, should your system imbibe water after the solenoid switches off, you run the risk of damage and failure, don't stint on the pennies, they can end up costing way more in the end and as far as tubing goes make sure the tubing is rated for CO2, if it is bog standard tubing, you will lose a considerable amount through the tube wall.

The Glass is always greener on the other side.

It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!

Nice list Lauris, and also great advice from Homer regarding the non return valve, I recently got a co2 setup and I went to aquaworld and he does a great startup set and I also got told always to go for a slightly more expensive german makes just for safety reasons...
Last thing you need is a co2 leak in the house...
Best of luck with it,
