Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

a few more questions ,now that I am using co2 Darren in SH was saying I will need to feed the plants with a different fertilizer at present using easy life profiti daily . any recommendations as to what to use ? At present I fertilize daily but normally at night after lights out ,should I be fertilizing early in the day while lights are on . finally Darren said to carry on using easy carbo mainly to help control algea, again putting this in after light out is this the right time? I have a night routine of dosing the tank and feeding wafers all after lights out . thanks Robert

Easycarbo should go in early in the morning as it has a short half life and the plants need light to use it. Not sure on profito if that says dose daily then morning would be better but if it can be dosed weekly then anytime will do. Plants need light to use any nutrient including CO2, that is why most people time the CO2 to come on just before the lights.

Seeing that from the views of forum members I have been adding plant fertiliser and easy carBo at the wrong time of day ie after lights out , is there any aquatic equipment that will dispense small amounts of liquid on a timer daily . I have never heard of anything but hopefully the vast experience of members might be able to assist

There are dosing pumps, not sure on prices though as I have not looked for one. My routine is feed and fert in the morning before work. You could try EI dry ferts. I think Lauris uses the tropica and it is hard to argue with his results, do a search for use Lauris and you should find a post with fert info.

Also get some macro-nutrient fertilizer (NPK). If using EI index just get JBL PRo scape NPK or you can get them separately if you measuring lvls.

Do you know, You'd be better buying the dry salt fertilisers then buying that bottled stuff. Works out extremely cheap and lasts years

It's the same. Only difference is the marketing behind tropica
