Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Sourcing 2kg FE for Co2 + setup help

Hello!

I'm looking to get started on my first proper planted tank. I have a 180litre Juwel Vision. Currently just have a few "Vallisneria Spiralis" also known as tape grass/eel grass & a few small "water lettuce" which are slowly recovering from the massive cull I inflicted upon them.

I'm based in New Ross, Co. Wexford, I'm looking to get a 2kg fe for as cheap as possible. Still have to figure out where I can get it refilled but I'm sure that won't be a problem. Any ideas where I could pick one up cheap?

Then, I'd need everything else required to make it work. Just pick them up from ebay from China etc ?? any links to ones you might suggest would be appreciated.

I'd like to slowly turn my tank into a densely planted one (with help from you guys)

My current stocking consists of:
3 Danio kyathit (about 3 years old, won't be replacing)
5 Bronze Cory's, plan to add 1 more to bring to 6.

I'd like to add maybe 8+ cardinal tetra as well as 10+ male guppy.

My current equipment includes a JBL Cristalprofi e901 canister filter, 2 x 742mm T5.
Currently dosing some Easy Carbo daily as well as ProFito weekly.

My pH from my tap water seems to be about 7.6 which is a little on the high side. Any suggestions to lowering this, rain water maybe?

Sorry for long winded post & thanks in advance for help :)

I got a 2kg after from Larry Browne fire protection in Tagoat, Wexford. €35 for it, I was happy enough.

Set it all up today, working away grand. Only problem I have is the Blau bubble counter I got from Seahorse, he did say to put the tubing in hot water to soften it up to make it easier to get it on the end of the bubble counter but it seems way too big compared to the 4/6mm tubing I have.

I'll give it another go tomorrow

larrys great-if you can catch him-he usually refills a 5kg cylinder for 25 e.
ps if anyone wants some 2kg empties , i have a few
forgot to say ,the co2 will lower your ph to whatever you want-the more co2 the lower the ph
