Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Ok there must be a blue moon out tonight, I don't generally take much interest in the plants in my tanks, so things must be drastic. I have noticed the plants have lost their nice green colour and have become more yellow, is there an easy answer as to what that is a sign off? I don't use CO2, fertiliser or anything else. I have a bottle of Tropica liquid feed somewhere, should I add some?

Now you are going to ask what plants they are? The one I have the most of I have no idea but the rest are vallis and elodea densa (yes I know not a tropical plant, but I like it because it grows well for me, usually).

the cause of yellowing leaves could be a number of problems depending on how it affects the leaf. tips into centre tuning transparent could be lack of iron, if old leaves tun yellow it could be lack of nitrogen, etc. how bad are they and how is it effecting the leaves?

May your fish be with you:

Daragh there may be some important clues in your opening post:laugh:

haha sorry couldn't resist

Definitely add the Tropica fertiliser if you have some, just add what it states on the label and do that for at least a few weeks to see if there is any difference after that time, response times in plants can be 2-3 weeks to see if you have turned things around.

Heres a list of deficiencys, my own guess would be nitrate but obviously thats only a guess, try the fertiliser anyway.

Look for the clues in the new and old leaf growth.

Post edited by: zig, at: 2007/09/25 19:10

Just overall the plants look iserable and don't luck fresh green more washed out or yellowy green. I have added the Tropica fert and will wait and see if that improves their pallor.

Thanx.

Hi Daragh could be water chemistry, or temp. most plants as far as im aware find it difficult to grow in a low PH (below 6.0) especially vallis, whats your water params??

Hi Daragh,

I used Tropica Master Grow before and i have to say its the best liquid fertilizer i have used... now remember to take out the carbon out of your filter if you're using any...

Also how old are your lights? maybe a change is in order... ;)
