Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

i was just wondering how long it takes, i ordered from Greenline wednsday night and got an e mail on thursday morning saying that the plants would be sent this comming monday morning.....i wonder how long it will take to get to cork!!!!!!
they have some realy good species on their availability list at the moment, plants like Barclaya longifolia , (its from the lily family, Nymphaeaceae).you don't see that plant on sale very often.
that is assuming that what gets delivered to me is the true plant ...and is a viable rhizome.
it will be a long week waiting ..............like birthdays as a child!

Hi,
here is the update on my delivery.
I recieved the plants in the post wednsday.
everything i ordered was there as described along with a couple of extra plants in most packs.
the packaging was very profectional, a stiff card board outer box with all the plants individualy packed in sealed plastic envelopes with a label giving name and growing hints and instructions on each pack. everything was as described (or larger) and all the plants were taped in the box to stop them being shaken around.
I cannot think of any area that i could fault Greenline
10 out of 10
I have just re read this and it sounds like an add for greenline!
however i stand by what i have written and will be using them again.

regards

Thats good news, felt the way you did when i set up my tank after years being without waiting for the arrival of plants to really paint tne picture.
Greenline i find are very professional and true to their word, their website has a wealth of knowledge regarding pictures of plants and their requirments and also about growing plants, needs and tips.
The plant food bags ( they look like a really over sized teabag )that they sell and give free with some orders i find are really effective, just pop them in the tank and they last 3 months.I dont use co2 or any other feed and they grow so well that i have an issue trying to keep them under control with pruning :) best of luck with the planted tank...

Sounds great Joe, must give them a try sometime. I am not a real plants person, but I am getting there slowly.

I have used Aquatic Magic on eBay, I ordered shrmps and plants, unfortunately the tracked package went the long way around and took over three weeks to arrive! The seller offered to re-send, which I accepted and then came back again saying they would prefer to refundmy money because if the package got lost or took as long the next time he could not afford to replace it again - which was fair enough, so I took the refund. Since then I ordered a few plants and they all arrived safely.

If shopping on their site, watch carefully as sometimes the same plant is shown at several different prices or differnt postage amounts, if you pick carefully, they are great value.

Hi Folks! got some amazon swords from aquaticmagic and have to say that after initial worrying appearance 2 days in the tank they really began to take off......however a question. It is recommended not to bury the crown of an amazon sword plant in the gravel substrate as doing so causes the plant to rot. The swords i got from aquaticmagic didn't have a lot of root development hence a couple have become free from the substrate.....a couple of keyhole cichlids in the tanks are not helping the situation!! Any hints on how to achor this type of plant?? kom
