Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Just a few random videos of Justine's (my much much better Other Half) fish....

Her Silver Arowana (now placed to take over one of my tanks).

So, now her tank collection has increased since taking over my bigger red hook pacu tank :)

Justine's rather loopy Red Hook Pacu youngsters of her own (and poised to take over yet another one of my tanks soon).....

:)
Our front room is a madhouse of noise. If it ain't the filters, its a dodgy air-pump, if it ain't the air-pump is is the escaped crickets hiding behind the fish tanks, and if it ain't them then it is some rubbish on TV. :)

enjoyed the vids ian. the arowanna is a really classy fish. have you ever successfully kept them in groups as i have seen even juveniles fight to the death when kept together. corkscrewing up and launching at each other with a great impact.
what are the spotted synos?
the red hooks look nice. are they a type of pacu? are they what used to be called metynnus or a different species?
think i hear the crickets too, esp in second vid.
justine will soon want a full fish room for her favourites. does she do the water changes as well lol.

I only realised the crickets in the background when I replayed back the vids on YouTube. Annoying.

Going back to my younger days, I used to have a couple of full sized 3 footers together.
I no longer have those facilities (pity....but hard work).

The Red Hook Pacus are the proper pacus (along with other Myloplus and Myleus species). The one that people commonly call Pacu is not a Pacu (although it is closely related to the Pacus such as the red-hooks).

I own the big ones, so Justine wanted some for herself...

Since the justine moved the Arowana into my tank, I do the water changes on that tank (for safety sake...one because the knife fish and pacus are mine, and two because the Arowana always attempts to bolt out of the tank when water is being changed), but on all her other tanks she does very regular water changes herself.

Spotted synos...??? ummmm?? I've never really IDd them.....nothing wrong with being lazy now and then. :)
