Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Thanks lad,

I was going to use a sand substrate as I had plant substrate in trigon and the tank would be destroyed when the piranha would be feeding or fighting. Hated the dusty look. Sand much cleaner had it before when I got them first. Most of my plants will be attached to driftwood. Wood love the the amazon 3d backround with the tree roots. or could try a DIY slate stone and roots 1 myself. Any ideas urself, want to get some giant vallis and some floating plants for cover. Cause when the piranha have cover u see their real colours.

Under the tank then will be done with timber painted black. Putting only 2 doors at each end cause couch will be covering the front all the time so there's no point.

Cheers Sean,

Have u a pic of that good for me? Ideas are welcome.....when I got them a 4 weeks old a year ago, I fed them everyday twice a day as instructed by much studying the web with lance fish and blood worms. But as they have grown I added two 3 year olds bout 4months ago and i started to train them to feed just once a week. Now they only feed once a week which is handy for me and water conditions are always spot on. They eat anything from lance fish to muscles, garden worms, frogs, feeder fish, beef heart(one every two months) as I have to vary their diet. don't like over feed fat piranhas, they don't look half as strong and are less active. Also cichlids pellets they go mad for in between my weekly feeds, for vitamins, coloration etc..... I would recommend if u want a less hassle fish to look after and life time pet get the piranha. Haven't lost 1 yet. Plus from Lots of study as they get bigger i can introduce tiger barbs, black/neon tetras. My next venture will be to get a rio 400 or 240 again for upstairs and get a black piranha.

Looking good, I must say I love Piranha setups. Really looking forward to more phots.

I have several times had the same problem with open topped tanks and have ended up using just sheets of plexiglas or regualar glas just to keep the heat until a proper lid is installed.
