Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Anyone breeding these little guys?

I recently discovered little shrimplets in one f my tanks, about ten of them. I did nothing special for them so can't take any credit.

Here is a short video of some adults -
    not
ones I have bred.

Cheers Mickey.

Drew, they are huge! Seriously they are about an inch and in a small tank, so yes they look big, pity they don't grow as large as thealgae shrimp, then they would really be stunning.

Great looking shrimp Daragh, if the juvenile shrimp ever get to a stage where you would like to sell some I would be very intrested in buying. It must have been yourself who bought all these shrimp in AV the week before I got there. Great looking little animals and would make a nice addition to any setup as long as nothing else can eat them. I got some sun-kisses and amano shrimp recently. The amano shrimp have bred but I dont think I have sufficient numbers of the sun-kissed for them to do likewise.

All the best

Denis

Denis, I bought 5 in AV but put them in a tank with fish that were too big and never saw them again :( I bought five more and put them in a cool ( around 70) loach tank that has peppered corys and young BN's and hardly ever saw them again, due to the amount of java moss. That's where I found about ten babies the other day.

Before finding the babies I had been looking out for some more but none of the shops had them, so I had ordered this new lot from on eBay from Taiwan. I don't know ho wfast the young grow but I will let you know when they get a bit bigger.

Hi Daragh,

Its more than likely that I got the name wrong but I vaguely remember them being called sun-Kissed shrimp, in fact I'm nearly certain. The man to ask would be drew and he still had about 20 left after the four I took last week.

Here is a snap that I am just after taking.

They are a very nice colouration but smaller and less active then the amano shrimp. However, unlike the amano shrimp they don't seem to mind the strong current and feed in the open continually.

How long did it take you to get the shrimp from the ebay seller and where they expensive? They really are a cool little shrimp.

Great looking shrimp, I try to get to AV over the weekend.

They were posted Monday and delivered Wednesday morning, the cost was $133 for 30 plus €60 postage.

If you are only going out to pick up the shrimp then give drew a call first to see if there are any in stock. They where 5.99/6.99 each or four for twenty. I've had no mortality so far and this is in a tank with a decent pH swing. So they seem to be fairly tough.

30 seems a lot to order and I wouldn't need that many but as I mentioned earlier if the wee ones grow well and you are willing to part with them, I want to be the first buyer in line.

30 is a lot, but the smallest amount they offer of Grade A (lowest grade) you can get 10 grade S, next grade up but they cost the same and personally don't think they are any nicer.

Also as these guys only grow about half the size of amano shrimp 30 in a two foot tank does not look that much at all.

I will let you know if the babies get to their teens.

Hi guys, they are sunkist shrimp, caridina cf.propinqua, they think they come from Sulawesi, Indonesia, not sure hence the cf. (compare/similar). Are difficult to breed due to the need of brackish water etc!!!!! Have a good few left......

Caridina cf.propinqua Orange Shrimp are not from Sulawesi, all Sulawesi shrimp breedin freshwater. I don't think caridina cf.propinqua has been bred in captivity ... yet.

Lovely shrimps.
