Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

There are also two Amano shrimps as clean up crew. The temp is 88F and I was not sure how the Amano would do, but six months later they are still going. They have become almost opaque,, which I have read is a bad sign that usually leads to death and there is no cure, no one seems to know what causes it, however they have been like that for about two months so I am leaving them there for the moment.
There are 14 Zebra in the tank two are 2.5 years and the rest are about 2 years. They grow VERY slowly and I will be grey as well as bald by them time they are mature enough to breed.

I thought I would keep them up to date on their cultural background

were did u get all of them
They all came from the same source, a fishkeeper workin in Brazil brought back the adults before the ban on exporting them and bred them here. Unfortunately he has since left Ireland and taken the parents with him

They are becoming more freely available as more people get them to breed, but they are still pretty rare and fairly expensive. I saw some on eBay earlier! Not a good idea to buy any fish from eBay but certainly not these guys, but it proves the point that more of them are making it on to the market.
They will never be "common" because they have very small batches, usually less than 20 and usually only spawn twice a year.

lovely fish daragh. what size are the biggest ones.
There are two noticeably bigger than the others, one of them is 6 months older, but the other was in the later batch, so I am not sure why there is such a growth difference. So those two would be about 3 inches including tail. One of them appears on the back wall, right hand side for a moment or two in the video.
Despite re-arranging the tank and setting up three different places that they would be likely to colonise they are all in together in the same spot as before changed the tank around.
I am going to leave a blue LED light on one night and the camera on longplay record and see what activity I can capture. I know they are out and about at night because I have surprised them with a torch before, fo all of a milisecond before they return to shelter again

I tried that last night and reviewed an hours footage tonight and saw nothing!!! Just the two Amano shrimps on their night patrols. The Zebras jsut wiggled about and stayed in almost the same positions. Although I used a dim light of blue and white LED's it would be a lot brighter than they are used to at night, so I am going to leave it on for the next few nights for them to get used to it and I will try filming again next week.

But I was thinking about that, might try that, but it will be next week at the earliest now anyway.
