Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Great looking fish there. How many tanks and litres do you have in your fish room.
I had 7 tanks in that room...smallest one is a 200litter... total gallons would be around 500-600gals thanks!

Thanks drew, the 10 year silver is still under my care remotely! One thing I can say about taking care of arowanas which are quite hardy fishes - In all the 13 years I never used a test kit....and never lost a fish except one that jumped out when I was in the office and the helper didnt close the lid....else it all came to "daily" partial water changes and I kept aged water in a big container. I always religiously clean the first 50% of my filter media with tank water and replace them every 3 months. I also used natural 'ketapang' leaves to soften my water...those trees grow quite big....I only used an electronic PH tester before and even pushed the limit on my silver to have a 3.8 Ph.....he's 10 years and still going...I have know Ian for a long time now, called into me a while back, he has an amazing collection of fish....which is growing...he is very knowledgeable!!!

Haven't seen flag tails for sale in a long time.
Not so sure about that dodgy music though

Did you buy small Arowana & grow them on or purchase them big?
Didn't notice any red tailed golds, have you kept these before?
Are the tanks in the last video outside?
Cheers,
Patrick.

Hey Pat, seen nice size Fei Feng's (Flagtail) in Long Mile...selling 60-70 a pop. Sorry about the music hahaha...I usually buy arowanas small and grow them...though I had bought 1 big redtail golden asian arowana (Panda Aquatic Farm) at 19in and transported it in a box for 3 hours once. Quite a bad experience hearing fish jumping all about while your stuck in traffic...
In the vid you will see 2 juvinile RTGs...one swimming about and one in still shots. One came from Qian Hu farm the other from Merlion. I've owned a total of 5 rtgs, 2 super reds, 2 banjar reds, 2 jardinis, 3 silvers, 1 green, and 1 black in my arowana keeping hobby so far.
A lot of the tanks are semi-outdoor. They are still sheltered but mostly surrounded by natural air if you know what I mean....thanks!

Which is your favourite?
Black Arowana are stunning as juveniles, shame they change colour as they grow.
I find the red tailed gold the nicest variant, any of the reds are stunning too.

My old time favorite is my N1wan Red. But my high back RTG is next as I've enjoyed him for 4 years...before it went to a breeding farm.
Blacks are great, recently considered extinct but not in the CITES - easy to teach to eat pellets when young. They are a bit skittish though compared to silvers but they have better eyes! price had been expensive could command RTG prices just because of supply.
Yes I have an account there in monsterfishkeepers...I've had so many and I couldnt control by activity amonst different fish forums...I once was an active moderator in arofanatics.com (website based in Singapore)...
check back monster and see my user account....i like the snow silver arowana less the plj = protruding lower jaw

You really have had some stunning fish.
Are you still interested in flowerhorns?
It seems interest in them has waned over time.
Same with blood parrots though they were never popular here.
(although I did see some pink, green, red & yellow ones yesterday

You must let me know if you're ever going to import an Asian Arowana to Ireland, I might be interested in combining an order so we could split the shipping.

I'm there in the link you just shared to me, I only have 7 posts there. I still have 2 flowerhorns in two 50 gal tanks they are 3 years old average. I used to be more Flowerhorn crazy than arowanas and for every arowana I kept I kept a variety of 3 fhs and successfully bred them. I will check relative prices and financial conditions. I certainly need more space which I don't have right now. I saw my ideal tank with a 50 gal sump but maybe need to wait for that In a year.I couldn't find you on monsterfishkeepers Ian, do you use the same username?
