Dogface Puffer
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Heres a quick clip of the latest addition to my FOWLR setup. He is a juvie Dogface Puffer and is a character. Just did a big wc before taking the vid so the water is still a little cloudy. Enjoy.

Cheers Des. Yeah this tank is pretty much done now. Stocklist is a Niger Trigger, Remora, Jewelled Moray Eel and the Dogface Puffer. Gonna leave it at that till I upgrade as I would like to keep a Mandarin Tuskfish too but Im pushing it as it is. Something to look foward to though

. As for you diving into marines, just research till your eyes bleed then go for it. You wont look back...

i used to have a 90 lite marine tank, very small for saltwater, just kept inverts in it, an arrow head crab, some emerald crabs and a few hermits
used to put damsels in for the arrow head but other than that no fish, the girlfriend got a puffer, put him in the tank, he ate everything and that was the end me keeping salt water...

Lol, yeah they are eating machines for sure. Great predators that love shelled prey and will take fish if given the chance. Some aquarists just introduce puffers on a temporary basis to rid their tanks of "pests" like mantis shrimps etc. Why not try a fish only setup with just the puffer or a couple of tankmates that wont be eaten? Thing is most of the relatively easy to come by puffers grow large and they need their space or aggression can become a problem. My guy loves muscles on the shell. He is still a juvie so I hit them with a mallet till the meat shows through and he does the rest. The way this fella is eating I dont think I will need to do that for long...

Cheers Patrick, Im delighted with him.
@ Gav, dead on, completely slipped my mind. Anyone here looking for seafood from frozen octopus to muscles on the shell? If so check out Taste Of the Sea in Dublin Industrial Estate(opposite Glasnevin Cemetery). Its adjoining the Lidil so you wont miss it. Great prices on frozen seafood...picked up a bag of muscles (50 or so) for under a fiver

. Well worth a look if you keep big fish with big appetites.
