Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Might do it in the ebi or else get a 100 litre tank to do it in.

If you want something small and a bit of a challenge (a real challenge) but has that WOW factor, then how about trying some Liquorice gourami. Seahorse have some in at only 4.50 each and are in good shape.
Breeding them is worthy of an article.

I have some young Nothobranchus nigripinnis to give away.
Super fish, a slight challenge but easy enough. You'd also be able to get rid of the young quite easily for a reasonable price.

I also have some plakat bettas awaiting arrangement for giving away.
These are, to be honest, ones that I don't want in my line breeding programme.
You'd easily shift good quality plakats I'm sure.

Being quite busy with things recently to predict when I'm free, but I can easily bag-up a pair of the Nothobranchus and Plakat bettas some day (when my schedule is less hectic.....and I'll be a grandad soon so that will take up some of my time :) )
Neither take up much room.
There is a little bit of extra work you have to do with both species as opposed to just letting them get on with breeding.

The Nothobranchus males have fantastic colours, the females are (well) pretty plain.
In the wilds, this fish exists in only one place under a bridge over a river in africa.
I'll reserve a young male for you (as if the males are too big then they could be close to their best-before date)

Rams will be a nice little breeding project as well.

Wild discus had for 6 months didnt have time to give them the care they needed.

Fonts daughter was born and wasent going to keep fish coz had no time and they where out growning there tank.

And went to a 500 litre all font tank so cant really complain with that darren can you

all valid reasons for moving on 2 types of fish that i didnt have time to take care of

Craig, don't know a lot about SA cichlids, or any cichlids for that matter so can't offer any input on those but I'm really looking forward to seeing pics of your shrimp rack up and running.
