Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hey Everyone,
Delighted with life this morning!!

As the above says my wild pair of apistos have spawned for the first time-AND I HAVENT A CLUE WHAT TO DO.
I cant remember for the life of me what type they are..Darren from Seahorse did tell me when i got them but its just gone...

Yes, ive seen in my tank breeding from guppies sword-tails platys etc, but this is a first for me so can any experienced Dwarf Cichlid keepers help?

Ive had the fish well over a year and just the last week or so noticed that the female was bright yellow and the male fast on her tail going mad around the tank! then this morning i seen the male not letting a thing near a group of tunnels i have, and seen the female in side, then i noticed the 'wrigglers'!!
when i shined the torched through i did see 2 white eggs..

Pics are not great but here they are..
Any help much appricated lads and ladys..

Not much u can do now. If there's no major predators in the tank they should be fine. Get your hands on micro worms culture at least. Brine shrimp would be better but more hassle hatching them. Start feeding fry as soon as they start swimming.

I'm in the same boat stem, my f1 apistogramma papagalo have just spawned. The female is protecting a coconut like mad, they are currently in a community tank but I've 3 different types of tetra in there including Congo tetras so they young will not survive.

I'm in the middle or cycling a new tank and will move the pair in on there own.

Keep this post updated as I'll need some info too on how to raise the fry.

So. After a few days i noticed the female outside the tunnels, circling an area and protecting it, its then when i looked closer i seen the tiniest little baby fry ive ever seen, i counted about 8, so the next day i looked again and the fry were a little more adventurous swimming in the patch the mother was protecting but the problem being this time i could only see 4..
Unfortunately today the mother was free swimming away from the patch for the first time in over a week and thats when i knew the babies were gone..

At least i no know their a pair, and the next time they spawn i will be ready..Somehow.

It's always exciting when you know you have a pair. Then the real work can begin
