Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Just a few minutes ago, not on the flat stone I layed in the tank for them but on the backwall of the tank.
3rd fish is being attacked a bit and I told the previous owners I will propably have to rehome her, if anyone can give a female jewel cichlid a new home let me know.
Pics are coming shortly.

quick Q: how long for the eggs to hatch?

Hi Mrs F had the same experience over the last few days. Got 2 juwels of Daley and they had their fry the other day.I noticed they cleared some of my coral sand from behind a rock and the both juwels seemed to be hanging around looking suspicious!!!

I was distracted with filter problems but noticed one of the juwels changing color to a much deeper red and then taught i seen some dirt on the bottom of the tank. but upon closer inspection it turned out to be a bundle of Fry.

Its amazing what fish can do, i had major issues with filtation and ammonia spikes over the last few weeks and the juwels were still able to settle down and produce fry. They have only being in the tank a few weeks so i suspose the lesson learned for myself is that fish producing fry is not a indication that your tank is in perfect conditions.

All the best with your new visitors, enjoy

thanks I'll go by that name now, nothing but conditioner is going in the water, and a big variety of food, these would have been sampling lots of frozen foods since I got them, felt sorry because they had been on a diet of the doromin sticks for years.

:( Unfortunately the female ate her eggs last night, ah well I am sure they'll try again, still looking for a new home for my spare female jewel though.
Dunno if it was her presence in there that made the mother eat the eggs, or the fact I serviced the filter intake by putting sponge over it so no fry would get sucked in.

Better luck for me next time
